Last Tuesday I had a lovely day in Liverpool for my birthday treat! I’d wanted to visit Quarry Bank Mill near Styal, but it’s not open on a Tuesday, so we went to Liverpool for the day, stayed overnight and visited Styal the following day.
In Liverpool we went to the Tate where the highlights for me were the beautiful Degas bronze, the Little Dancer of 14 years, Giacometti’s Pointing Man, Andy Warhol’s Can of Black Bean Soup, a Mondrian, and a Josef Albers.
I’m afraid the Touched Exhibition, part of the Liverpool Biennial really didn’t do much for me, sadly.
In the evening we dined at La Cubanita on Campbell Square, where we got a lovely welcome, really good Mojito’s and a wonderful meal.
On Wednesday we travelled home via Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Cheshire.
The mill is now owned by the National Trust and has a range of exhibitions and demonstrations, including a rare working Spinning Jenny. It was such a treat to see it working as if it was in it’s original setting.
