Alison has been weaving since she was eight and has an “O” level and an “A” level in hand weaving and an HNC in hand woven textile design.
Her work takes time. It can take many hours to wind a warp, dress the loom and weave the fabrics. She specialises in techniques that industry can’t reproduce, weaving natural, sustainable fibres, particularly wool, and some of the yarns are hand dyed in her studio to get the exact colour for a design, often using natural dye extracts.
Alison fabrics have won awards with the Bradford Textile Society, up against students from some of the most prestigious Universities in the UK. She has won awards from the Arts Council and Design Factory and exhibited at the Craft Centre and Design Gallery, Leeds, Harley Gallery, Nottinghamshire, Thorseby Gallery, Nottinghamshire, Studio61, Derbyshire amongst others. For the last four years Alison has been selected to exhibit at 100% Design, London.
Recently Alison was shortlisted for the Best Fabric Collection at the Northern Design Awards in Chester. The other shortlisted companies have been well established for quite a number of years, making Alison’s achievements all the more remarkable.
